Keeping Your Heart Open: Working with Anger and Hatred

It's a challenging time for many of us to keep our hearts open in the
face of disturbing events and destructive speech and behavior in the
world and our society.  How can we stand firm skillfully, without
getting overwhelmed by anger or hatred?  The development of The Four
Immeasurables: Lovingkindness, Compassion, Joy, and Equanimity, can
support clear decision making, wise action, and compassion for all
beings, including ourselves.

Also known as the Four Sublime States, the Divine Abodes, and the
Brahmaviharas, we can all develop these
awakened qualities of heart and mind to guide us in our daily life and
help us meet the challenges of being a human in a complex and
interconnected world.  Learn to meet difficulties with greater ease
and care for yourself and others.

The day will consist of alternating periods of sitting meditation,
walking meditation, gentle stretching, and teachings on the Four
Immeasurables.  Meditation instruction in mindfulness and the Four
Immeasurables is included.

This retreat will be silent to deepen your experience and allow you to
rest from the stress of talking, cellphones, email, writing, and
media.  There will be a one-hour lunch practice period.
