The IDP Contemplative Writing Class is open to writers of all experience levels and genres. At each meeting, we'll meditate, practice writing prompts and exercises on topics of mindfulness, awareness, and the sense perceptions, share our work aloud in a supportive atmosphere, and create a compassionate writing community. By practicing meditation we will become more familiar with the landscape of our minds, the texture of our thoughts, and the richness of the present moment--all of which will inform our writing. We will explore writing as a way to actively learn about our world, and we will find out how writing and meditation can support one another. This class will be a place to play, to experiment with words and form, take artistic risks, and return again to the page with greater confidence in our ideas.
Meditation instruction will be given at the start of every class. No experience with meditation necessary. Beginners welcome.
Please bring pen and paper.
